The Long Valley Recreation Association plays by the FIFA Laws of the Game, modified as follows;

Law 1 – The Field
Size of the field will vary based upon age level. (See chart below)

Law 2 – The Ball
The ball will vary based upon age level. (See chart below)

Law 3 – The Number of Players
The number of players will vary based upon age level. (See chart below) Unlimited substitutions at any stoppage of play, at the referee’s discretion.

Law 4 – The Player’s Equipment
No hard casts

Law 5 – The Referee
No modification

Law 6 – The Other Match Officials
No Assistant Referees in LVRSA – a parent-volunteer will act as a club linesman

Law 7 – Duration of the Match
The duration of the match will vary based upon age level. (See chart below)

Law 8 – Start and Restart of Play
No modification

Law 9 – Ball In and Out of Play
No modification

Law 10 – Determining the Outcome of a Match
No modification

Law 11 – Offside
Kindergarten and PeeWee only: Offside is not enforced.

Law 12 – Fouls and Misconduct
Kindergarten, PeeWee, and Minors:
– Heading the ball is not permitted. Result is an indirect kick.
– Punting the ball is not permitted. Result is a re-take by the goalkeeper.

Law 13 – Free Kicks
Kindergarten, Pee Wee, and Minors only: All opponents must remain at least eight yards away from the kick until the ball is in play.

Law 14 – Penalty Kick
Kindergarten and Pee Wee only: There are no penalty kicks. Direct free kick fouls inside the penalty area are moved to an area outside the penalty area nearest to where the foul occurred.

Law 15 – Throw-in
Kindergarten, Pee Wee, and Minors only: Additional attempt permitted for an improper throw-in.

Law 16 – Goal Kick
Kindergarten, Pee Wee, and Minors only: Opponents are to remain in their own half until the ball is in play. The team taking the goal kick does not have to wait for the opposition to retreat and has the option to restart the game beforehand should they so choose. The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves.

Law 17 – Corner Kick
Kindergarten, Pee Wee, and Minors only: All opponents must remain at least eight yards away from the corner arc until the ball is in play.

(1) Game time can be modified for water breaks, as necessary.
(2) In the Major division (w/ Mount Olive and Roxbury), there is a 4-goal mercy rule. Teams ahead by 4 goals will remove one player from the field. If they score again, another player is removed. Coaches and referees to work together to enforce this rule.
